Most of these lords kept their residences in newly-built stone fortresses, which had already come into being by the beginning of the 14th century. Máté set up his residence in Trencsén and Tapolcsány, László Kán in Déva and Bonchida (the latter without a castle), Amadé Aba in Gönc and perhaps in Vizsoly (the latter without a fortress), Kopasz Borsa in Adorján, István Ákos in Diósgyőr. In creating these residences they imitated the royal court. However, they spent only a limited period of time at these places, as they often visited different parts of their territories to consume the accumulated revenues and goods. The residence was the pake to deal with matters of public and civil law, on the basis of oblique references (building processes, establishment of monasteries, deer-forests) the conclusion can be drawn, that these residences could satisfy highest demands and functioned as baronial courts.
