Tartalmi kivonat:In the summer of 1944 István Bethlen was secretly writing his memoirs entitled: Hungarian politics in the Second World War. Political Essay or Indictment. In the first part of his work István Bethlen analyses the political situation and the balance of power between the two World Wars and proves that the defeat of Germany was foreseeable. In the second part he evaluates the different Hungarian govenments' achievements and tries to explain how Hungary proceeded on her course after 1939 from the idea of peaceful territorial revision towards her entrance into the War and the German occupation. The political analysis grows into an indictment because Bethlen, while searching for the origin of Hungary's misfortune, arrives at two conclusions. He supposes the Prime Ministers' complete freedom of action and stresses their personal responsibility , and condemns that section of the middle class which became influential by accepting alien ideas.
