Tartalmi kivonat:The author of the study refutes that recent opinion according to which the expression 'megas arkhon', which appears together with the name of Árpád in the 40th chapter of 'De Administrando Imperio' means first (that is: first in time) prince. The author, in accordance with the traditional view, philologically proves that on the one hand the expression 'megas arkhon' next to the name of Árpád means 'great prince', on the other hand all the 10th century princes who ruled the Hungarian Principality held this title.
