| Tartalmi kivonat: | Following the publication of the Protestant Patent, the nuncio of Vienna disapproved of the involvement of Catholics in the national movements in Hungary. He especially condemned the involvement of the archbishop of Eger, the Primate, and the Szent István Társulat, the Catholic cultural institution and book publisher. Besides involvement in national movements, this direct order also brought the issue of political Catholicism to the surface, to mixed reactions from the Catholic public. The representative of the Holy See in Vienna followed up his presentation of the state of affairs in Hungary by reporting on the arguments of both the supporters and the opponents of the Patent. This investigation could have been important to Rome, as the patent could have affected the legal status of Catholics in the Habsburg Monarchy in the early 1860s. |
