Leíró adatok
Tartalmi kivonat:Karrikins (KARs) are butenolide compounds formed during the combustion of cellulose and found in smoke. KARs share signal pathway with strigolactones, and plant species are able to respond to the presence of KARs by improved germination, seedling growth, and stress tolerance. According to the available literature, KARs have the potential to intensify plant tolerance against sub- or supraoptimal temperature, drought, heavy metal exposure, salinity, and bacterial pathogens. Beyond plants, some effects of KARs have been revealed on plants' ecological partners like arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi. Smoke water containing KARs has promising applications in plant cultivation due to its stimulating effects on plant growth and development. This chapter aims to collect and discuss the recent literature about the direct effects of KARs and smoke water on plant development and stress resilience and also about their indirect effects via the modulation of the ecological partners of plants. Future research directions for better exploring KARs' (phyto) effects are also suggested. © 2025 Scrivener Publishing LLC. All rights reserved.
