Tartalmi kivonat:SLS technology has proven its importance among current 3D printing technologies in single-step production of personalized medicines from a diverse list of compositions and designs. This is due to its numerous benefits that could be provided to manufacturers/formulators in pharmaceutical industry, through which it may outperform other competitors. Despite these promising expectations, the available information about SLS is still limited, and there are many considerations that should be investigated extensively to increase the spread and continuity of it. The main aim of this review is to present the currently available data of this novel method, with a special emphasize on pharmaceutical applications. It will also highlight the advantages/disadvantages of SLS technology and the importance of sintering process of pharmaceuticals. This work also discusses the requested steps to be followed before, during and after printing process in details, with a brief description of the commonly used printers. The importance of printability studies and the required properties of applied materials, formulation and quality control of resulted printlets are also discussed. This investigation establishes a solid background for researchers to move further in the development procedure of this technology surpassing the challenges and obstacles that were carefully addressed and exploring the promising potentials that are not being fully invested. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.
